About New Tribes Mission

_______________________________________________

Vision:

Millions of tribal men, women and children are still isolated from the Gospel.
Someone must go tell them about God's gift of salvation. Someone needs to live among them, love them with Jesus' love, learn their culture and language, and then teach the people in their own language about the Savior.
NTM coordinates missionaries, sent by local churches, to take the Gospel to tribal people. Missionaries then plant churches. They disciple believers, translate the Scriptures, and train teachers and leaders, who in turn reach out to their own people and to neighboring tribes.

Purpose:

NTM helps local churches plant tribal churches.
We mobilize, equip and coordinate missionaries, who come from and are sent out by local churches. Working through NTM, these missionaries evangelize people groups who have had no access to the Gospel, translate the Scriptures into their language, and plant a church.

And that's what our chairman, Oli Jacobsen, calls "a beautiful cycle." Once that church is established, it is a local church that we can partner with in taking the Gospel to others who have yet to hear.

NTM's purpose statement:

Motivated by the love of Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, NTM exists to assist the ministry of the local church through the mobilizing, equipping, and coordinating of missionaries to evangelize unreached people groups, translate the Scriptures, and see indigenous New Testament churches established that truly glorify God.

  • Using teamwork and plurality of leadership effectively to accomplish God's work.

Scripture Passages:

  • "If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies, Fulfill ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others" (Philippians 2:1-4).

Doctrine:

We believe ...
  • in the word-by-word inspiration and divine authority of the Holy Scriptures.
  • in one God, eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
  • in the Lord Jesus Christ as true God and true man; His virgin birth, spotless humanity, vicarious death, bodily resurrection, present advocacy; and His personal, imminent, bodily, visible, pretribulation and premillennial return for His Church.
  • in the fall of man, resulting in his complete and universal separation from God, and his need of salvation.
  • that the Lord Jesus Christ died and shed His blood as a sacrifice for the sins of the whole world.
  • that salvation is a free and everlasting gift of God, entirely apart from works; that every person is responsible to receive salvation by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; that a soul once saved can never be lost.
  • that the Holy Spirit regenerates with divine life and personally indwells the believer upon his faith in Christ for salvation.
  • in the bodily resurrection of both the saved and the unsaved.
  • in the unending life of the saved with the Lord, and the unending punishment of the unsaved.
  • in the responsibility of each believer, motivated by the love of Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit, to witness for Christ and to live sacrificially for the proclamation of the Gospel into all the world.
  • in believer's baptism by immersion.

Heritage:

New Tribes Mission is steadfast in its goal of reaching people who have no access to the Gospel.

That was the vision for our ministry when we were founded in 1942, and it is our vision today.
Paul Fleming and five others had no funds or organization behind them when they dared to trust God to establish NTM.
"It seemed that the Lord had pushed us into something, and we were confident that no man started New Tribes Mission; the Lord brought it into existence in spite of us," Paul wrote.
New Tribes Mission continues to trust God, and God continues to be glorified. Today more than 3,000 missionaries serve throughout the world, and training programs in more than a dozen countries prepare missionaries for service among the thousands of tribes who have yet to hear.
We thank God for the rich heritage passed on to us by a small group of people who decided, in Paul Fleming's words, "New Tribes Mission's efforts shall be directed ... where no witness of the Gospel has yet reached."
